Just for Fun
Along with teaching English and Young Adult Literature, I also taught a film course. If you want to analyze motif in a film, try viewing “Destiny” by Fabien Weibel:( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEKLEeY_WeQ). It tells the story of a man caught in a Groundhog Day time loop where he watches himself make the same mistake over and over until he learns to “step out of his box.” You’re looking for straight lines and squares. The catch is to figure out why this motif. It’s a clever short animated film. Five stars out of five.
BTW, if you want to apply this, try watching the first five minutes of the film The Secret Life of Walter MItty with Ben Stiller. Tell me what you see and why it's in there; what does the embedded motif say about the main character, Walter Mitty? The whole is based on a James Thurber short story of the same name. You'll find it an odd read at first, but it's actually very tightly written story..
